Mitchell Stein's Top Ten Favorite Disney Villains

Mitchell Stein- Mitchell Stein’s Top Ten Disney Villains:

After reading some of our fantastic Top Ten Disney Villains contributions by our amazing readers, I realized I had not yet written a Top Ten list of my own yet, so without any more introduction, here is my top ten favorite villains of all time:

10) Gaston LeGume:
Gaston is a perfectly fit villain for Beauty and the Beast. His inflated ego and narcissistic outlook on everything lets always lets him feel superior and his determination for Belle keeps the story going. He’s cunning, and devious, and goes as far as throwing Belle’s father Maurice into an asylum just to get her to marry him. When it becomes known that the Beast in fact does exist, and Belle has fallen for him instead, Gaston goes after the Beast in order to kill him. A true villain if I ever saw one.

9) Bowler Hat Guy & Dolores:
I’ve always loved Meet the Robinsons, and probably one of the best aspects of the story is the main antagonist of the film, Bowler Hat Guy and his evil robot bowler hat, Doris (or DOR-15). As a child, Bowler Hat Guy shared a room with Lewis Robinson, who kept him up all night working on his science project, The Memory Scanner. Goob, being too tired the next day ends up falling asleep during a Little League baseball game and ends up costing the entire game. Too ashamed, Goob hides himself in the orphanage, long after its closing listening to the radio and being tormented by Lewis’ success. He then decides to team up with Doris to take out their revenge on Lewis after all those years.
While Bowler Hat Guy seems to be the bad guy, the real villain is Doris, who seeks her revenge on Lewsi after he shut her down shortly after her creation. She teams up with Goob to execute their plan. Bowler Hat Guy is hilarious as the clumsy, dumb, ridiculous villain, and what Doris has to put up with throughout the movie.

8) Scar:
The Lion King still remains one of my favorite movies ever, and much of that excitement in the movie is driven by Scar and his evil hyena henchmen. His musical number “Be Prepared” is a wonderfully catchy song, and he’s perfectly evil on all accounts. His evil schemes are almost beyond most Disney villains, especially in the sense of his planned execution of both Mufasa and Simba. He then takes over the kingdom creating a dark, evil place with himself on top.

7) The Hyenas: Benzai, Ed and Shenzi Marie Predatora Veldetta Jaquelina Hyena
Okay, this is kinda cheating considering them a villain, but these evil henchmen really deserve their own spotlight. The goofy hyenas recruited by Scar (he must have been really desperate for henchmen) Shenzi, Benzai and Ed are incredibly ridiculous and steal almost every scene. Ed is the crazy guy of the trio, voiced by Jim Cummings and is easily the most hilarious, barely ever speaking a word but communicating through laughter. Easily the funniest character. The hyenas bounce off each other really well.

"You wouldn't hit a guy with glasses, would you?"
6) King Candy
Wreck-It Ralph isn’t really my favorite Disney animated film, but one of the things I love about it is the film’s antagonist, King Candy. He’s perfectly hilarious throughout the entire film. Plus, I don’t want to be sent to the Fungeon, so I had to include him.

5) Jafar
Jafar is a perfect villains on all means. He’s perfectly evil and villainous and hilarious which creates scenes where you’re unsure of whether to love him or hate him. Throughout his screen time, his main intentions are to have more power, and to get there, he’ll crush anyone in his way. In my opinion, this is what a perfect Disney villain is to me on all means.
I’m not generally a fan of villains that are seeking revenge for some incident years before, but rather when things are more about business and less personal, those characters always work better. In The Muppets, an original story included Tex Richman seeking revenge at the Muppets for doing a bad performance at his tenth birthday party. Luckily, they swapped out that story for that Richman was trying to take over the theater in order to drill for oil. That’s just another example of how I prefer business over personal issues when it comes to villains.

Also, I think him flubbing Prince Ali Ababua (calling him Prince Abooboo) is hilarious. It cracks me up every time.

4) Randall
Jealous of James P. (Sulley) Sullivan’s scare record, which is almost double the amount of his own, Randall goes as far as creating the Scream Extractor, and kidnapping children to test it out on. He violates the Scare Code and basic human values just to make sure he ends up on top, working alongside Henry Waternoose, they both define great memorable villains.
Monsters University reveals to us a bit about Randall’s past, crossing over with Mike Wazowski and Sulley, giving us insight on their rivalry. Randall feels he needs to redeem himself for losing to Mike, and therefore attempts to make himself superior than the duo when they end up at Monsters Inc.

3) Constantine
Making his debut in Muppets Most Wanted, Kermit’s evil Russian doppelganger shines from his first moment on screen and really nails it until the credits roll. He’s brilliantly hilarious throughout the movie, performed by puppeteer Matt Vogel who also supplies the voice, and he sings and tap-dances! What else do you want from a villain? Originally I wasn’t so sure about Constantine’s future following the film, but he was a really fantastic character that I wouldn’t even mind if he continued to make cameo appearances alongside the Muppets, just as long as they don’t overdue the Kermit doppelganger plot stories.

2) Mother Gothel
Mother Gothel is quite evil in Disney’s Tangled. Her self-centered mindset has her go as far as kidnapping a new-born child and locking her away in a tower. She even goes as far as attempting to kill Flynn Rider when the secret has been revealed, just for her own selfish purposes. She’s a great villain because she can be evil but she still provides comic relief during the film, something which can’t always be said about most villains

   1) Dr. Heinz Doofenshrmirtz
This guy is by far my favorite Disney villain to date. His failed experiments (his ANATORS to be precise) and his frenemy relationship with Agent P somehow never manages to get old, even though five years of Phineas and Ferb have passed. Maybe one day he’ll figure out not to build a machine with a self-destruct feature included.

Ooh! It’s muffin time! So that it’s for my favorite Disney villains of all time. What are some of your favorite Disney villains?

John Viaes' Ten Favorite Disney Villains

John Viaes- Disney has always had great villains, whether it would be in their movies or shows. This is my top ten list of my favorite Disney and Pixar villains. This list contains spoilers, but who hasn’t seen any of these movies? There’s so much more I want to add to this list, but ten will have to do. :)

10. Syndrome (The Incredibles)

The first time I saw The Incredibles in the theater, I found it mind-boggling that a super villain wants to kill off all superheros so he can be a superhero. I like in the beginning where he tries begging and begging Mr. Incredible to be his sidekick, IncrediBoy, even by showing off what he can do. Holding a grudge like that for fifteen years is pretty bad. I also like how he creates a robot just to lure Mr. I into his trap. This guy is a pure genius. He’s very different from other villains and certainly has his place on this list.

9. Shere Khan (The Jungle Book)

Shere Khan the tiger makes this list because I like how he just has to show himself and stay calm just to scare the other animals of the jungle. He is very good at hiding what he really wants, but as soon as Mowgli starts talking back to him, he looses it. Then you really see him freak out when Mowgli ties his tail to a tree branch set on fire.

8. Maleficient (Sleeping Beauty)

She’s considered to be the greatest Disney villain of all time and I can see why. I love the way she makes an appearance in the beginning when the new Princess Aurora receives her gifts from the three fairies. I also love her reaction when her henchman tell her they’ve been searching every cradle for sixteen years. She starts laughing, then gets angry. Every time fire jumps out of her back, you know it’s going down.

7. Dr. Facilier (The Princess & the Frog)

He’s a witch docter. How can you go wrong? He’s much similar to Hades from Hercules in terms of making deals that the other person regrets. His musical number, “Friends On the Other Side” is wonderful. I love the dark tone put into the song to bring out the villain in him. Shadow Man being pulled into the voodoo world in the end is amazing as well.

6. Scar (The Lion King)

Scar is pure evil. He kills his own brother, Mufasa, in order to be in his spot as king of Pride Rock. That scene still startles me to this day. He ruins Pride Rock, causing starvation to the other lions. His hyena henchmen are hilarious, his song “Be Prepared” is awesome, and he gets what he truly deserves in the climactic battle between him and Simba at the end of the movie.

5. Madam Medusa (The Rescuers)

I absolutely hated this women when I was a kid. She makes the list because she kidnaps  a little girl in order to get some giant diamond stuck in a well. And she throws a fit every time little Penny runs away, leaving her henchman, Mr. Snoops and her pet alligators to go after her. She treats everyone she meets like dirt, especially Penny and Snoops. She even goes as far as stealing Penny’s teddy bear, yet she’s afraid of mice. I’m always laughing the first time she sees Bernard and Bianca. It’s priceless.

4. Hopper (A Bug’s Life)

Worse than Medusa, he thinks he’s supreme ruler of Ant Island, forcing every ant to serve food for him and the grasshoppers. He talks down to Flik and his friends as they’re worthless and as if they are only here to serve grasshoppers. I also love every part when his brother gets on his nerves. He soon gets what he deserves in the end…gets eaten by a bird!

3. Judge Claude Frollo (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)

This guy is pure evil. He almost tries to drown Quasimodo as a baby, he burns down houses, and keeps Quasimodo locked up for years. He also threatens to kill Esmerelda if she doesn’t give him what he really wants (I don’t even have to say it, watch the movie). If that doesn’t say “cruel” I don’t know what will.

2. Cruella DeVil (101 Dalmatians)

Everyone knows what she’s all about. Kidnapping ninety-nine puppies, and wanting to kill them and turn them into fur coats. When they escape, she stops at nothing to get them back, even going as far as to push a moving truck off the side of a cliff with her own car. “Cruel” really does fit in with her name “Cruella DeVil.” Her henchmen, Horace & Jasper, leave me laughing all the time. The song written about this woman describes every single detail about her.

1. Jafar (Aladdin)

Everyone knows what Jafar’s all about. He wants to be marry Princess Jasmine, just so he can be sultan. He and his parrot, Iago are a barrel of laughs no matter what they do. He dresses up as an old man to set Aladdin free and to bring him into the cave of wonders. As soon as Aladdin brings him the lamp, he takes it and throws Aladdin off the cliff. As soon as he finds out that he escaped the cave, he steals the lamp and uses it for his own desire. I love in the end when he wishes to be an all powerful genie, he then gets sucked into his lamp. Eventually, in the sequel, The Return of Jafar, he’s set free, but then the lamp gets destroyed, destroying Jafar.

Mark Hansen's Ten Favorite Disney Villians

TOP TEN DISNEY VILLAINS BY MARK HANSEN (NOT A DISNEY VILLAIN)

After reading Michael Wermuth’s list of Disney Villains, I knew I had to contribute my own list! Not because his list was incorrect; on the contrary, I think he made terrific choices. It’s just fun to list things, and Disney Villains are often the best part of Disney films or TV shows. So, here’ my list, in no particular order. Oh, and Spoiler Alert, as many of these entries contain sensitive plot points.
10. Shere Khan: From The Jungle Book, Shere Khan doesn’t enter until two-thirds into the movie, but his presence is felt from the very beginning. He’s a suave killer, with a silky voice provided by George Sanders. Bonus points for his Trump-like turn at moguldom in TaleSpin.
9. Madame Mim: The black witch from The Sword in the Stone. In what’s arguably the highlight of the film, she battles Merlin in a magical duel, transforming into creature after creature until being defeated when Merlin infects her, as a germ. Yeesh, I guess I never thought of the subtext of that. Moving on.
8. Prince John: From Robin Hood. In a terrific vocal turn from Peter Ustinov, the truck driver in The Great Muppet Caper, Prince John is a sniveling tyrant. He’ll conspire in the murder of Friar Tuck, but collapse into tears and thumb-sucking at the mention of his mother. Multi-faceted, villainous, Muppet connection. The trifecta!
7. Turbo/King Candy: The mastermind behind the mass amnesia of the citizens of Sugar Rush in Wreck-It Ralph, King Candy is actually a cleverly disguised ex-racing game star Turbo. Hey, when your voice is designed to sound like Ed Wynn, you’ve already won me over. Alan Tudyk surprised on all fronts in this role!
6. The Bowler Hat Guy: From Meet the Robinsons. Because of the robotic bowler hat and the dinosaur.
5. Professor Ratigan: From The Great Mouse Detective. Voiced by the incomparable Vincent Price, Professor Ratigan is the evil mastermind behind the plot to replace the Mouse Queen of England (remember that?) You know he’s an iconic Disney villain, as he fell to his death.
4. Oogie Boogie: From The Nightmare Before Christmas. You know, for what is essentially a sack full of bugs, Oogie Boogie is awfully charismatic. His singing voice alone is wonderful. I guess that’s about it. Otherwise, he’s an evil sack of bugs.
3. Lots-O’-Huggin Bear: From Toy Story 3. Yet another deceptively-pleasant-but-evil-on-the- inside character. I love how they gave him a back story similar to Jessie’s from Toy Story 2, but showed how being abandoned can warp you. Also, if you ask my two year-old son, the scariest character in this movie is the surveillance monkey.
2. Judge Doom: From Who Framed Roger Rabbit? A homicidal toon in a Christopher Lloyd mask, Judge Doom is the ultimate self-hating villain, willing to eradicate his own race for financial gain. Luckily, he was hoist by his own petard, i.e. destroyed by his own dip. Oh, the fizzy, fizzy irony!
1. Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz: From Phineas and Ferb. Doofenshmirtz is one of my all-time favorite characters, hands down. I just love bumbling super villains, especially of the mad scientist variety. He is full of hilarious quirks, from his hatred of lawn gnomes to his love for his best friend (a balloon with a face drawn on it.) Doof rules, people!

Michael Wermuth's Ten Favorite Disney Villains

Michael Wermuth, Jr. - Many of the animated Disney and Pixar shows have great villains, and today I present my list of the top ten Disney villains. Oh, and I must warn you that most of these entries contain spoilers.

10. The Big Bad Wolf, from "The Three Little Pigs" shorts
The Big Bad Wolf is, obviously, a big bad wolf wanting to eat the Three Little Pigs. He appeared in all of the shorts with the Three Little Pigs, eventually becoming the papa to Three Little Wolves. But even The Big Bad Wolf has standards--in "The Practical Pig," when he captures two of the pigs, he orders his sons to NOT eat them until he captures the last pig (though they disobey their father and attempt to eat the others anyway).

9. Randall, from Monsters, Inc.
Randall was one of two top scarers, second only to Sully. While Sully was quite humble over being top scarer and saw it as friendly competition, Randall was a bit more competitive. When he was discovered working late hours and was responsible for Boo being let lose in the monster world, it was assumed he did this just to make his score higher, when it turns out he was really trying to kidnap her to test out a scaring invention. I can identify with Randall a bit, wanting to be a bit competitive. Though I don't think he really looked scary enough to even be #2.

8. Ursula, from The Little Mermaid
Ursula is a sea witch, banished from King Triton's underwater kingdom. She manages to make a deal with Ariel, where she'll give her legs and let her live outside the water for three days, in exchange for her voice, and if Prince Eric doesn't kiss her in three days, Ariel will become a tulip. She does a good job at preventing this, and the sun sets just in time, only for Triton to agree to be turned into a tulip instead of Ariel. And it's cool when Ursula becomes a giant. And Ursula is probably one of the hammiest Disney villains.

7. Scar, from The Lion King
Scar was hoping to be king, but then his brother Mufasa had a son, Simba. Scar set out to kill Simba and Mufasa. Scar led Hyenas in a plan, killing Mufasa and thinking he killed Simba. Scar then became king, only to cause a great drought to the pride lands. When Simba came back to challenge Scar, he ordered Scar to leave and never come back, but had to fight Scar for the throne. Simba tossed Scar over a cliff, where Scar was attacked by the Hyenas, whom he had previously blamed for everything. I can identify with Scar being jealous of his brother and wanting to be in control. And his villain song "Be Prepared" is such a great song.

6. Syndrome, from The Incredibles
As a boy, Bucky, who would become Syndrome, wanted to be Mr. Incredible's sidekick. Mr. Incredible refused because he didn't want or need a sidekick. Eventually, after superheroes were forced to retire, Bucky became Syndrome and became a villain, setting out to invent the ability to become a superhero, because when everybody is super, nobody is. And after he was defeated, he ended up going so far as to kidnap Mr. Incredible's youngest son, Jack-Jack, unaware that he had gained superpowers.

5.  Jafar, from Aladdin
Jafar was the royal visier to the Sultan, and was able to hypnotize the Sultan with his magic scepter, causing the Sultan to allow Jafar to marry Princess Jasmine. Jafar was also interested in the magic lamp buried underground, sending Aladdin in and then attempting to kill him after getting the lamp. After eventually becoming the Genie's new master, Jafar was tricked by Aladdin into wishing to be an all-powerful genie... Not realizing this means being trapped in a lamp. Of course, Jafar was freed in the sequel, Return to Jafar, where he's an evil genie but ends up being destroyed at the end.

4.  Captain Hook, from Peter Pan
Perhaps one of the most iconic Disney villains, Captain Hook is the leader of the pirates in Neverland, and wants to kill Peter Pan, particularly due to Peter being responsible for getting Hook's hand eaten by a crocodile. While a ruthless pirate, he is also quite clumsy, constantly needing his first mate Mr. Smee to help him. Captain Hook bombs Peter Pan's hideout, nearly killing Peter and Tinker Bell, kidnaps Wendy, John, Michael, and the Lost Boys, and attempts to drown the Indian princess Tiger Lily. Although a buffoon at times, Captain Hook showed he can also be truly evil.

3. Gaston, from Beauty and the Beast
Gaston started out as just an egotistical jerk who wanted to marry Belle. But her rejection of him combined with her father Maurice telling the town that Belle was locked in a beast's dungeon led to Gaston paying the head of an asylum to have Maurice committed unless Belle agreed to marry him. When Belle was able to prove that the Beast was real, Gaston set out on a new mission to kill the Beast.. Gaston showed what a real jerk he is by stabbing Beast in the back (literally) right after the Beast decided not to kill Gaston, only for Gaston to fall to the death (but nobody falls to the death like Gaston). The townspeople never turn their back on Gaston, and they follow Gaston when he wants the Beast killed. I wonder how his funeral turned out.

2. Megavolt, from Darkwing Duck
My favorite villain from Darkwing Duck, Megavolt has electrical powers and a fondness for electrical puns. Originally a science nerd named Elmo Sputterspark, he got his powers after bullies sabotaged an experiment in static electricity, and he decided to use his powers for good... By getting revenge on the bullies and becoming a bad guy. I wouldn't call him the main villain of Darkwing Duck, but he is surely one of Darkwing's most important enemies. After all, he appeared in more episodes than any other villain (17, to be exact) and he was the first bad guy Darkwing fought (in fact they went to high school together).

1. Cruella de Vil, from 101 Dalmatians
A fashion designer who went to school with Anita Darling, Cruella has a desire for a dalmatian-skinned fur coat. When Roger and Anita's dogs had puppies, she wanted to buy them all, and when they wouldn't sell them, she had her henchmen Horace and Jasper steal them, and a lot more dogs, totaling 99 dalmatians. In the sequel, she starts out being good (after being on probation and prohibited from buying furs), but after gaining an interest in art she once again desired to kidnap the puppies. Cruella de Ville is such a cool villain, with her hair being two different colors, her desire for fur coats, and her reckless driving. The "Cruella de Ville" song is awesome as well. And she has such great lines, like "Poison them! Drown them! Bash them on the heads! I don't care how you kill the little beasts, but do it, and do it now!"

These are just some of Michael Wermuth's favorite Disney Villains. If you would like to contribute a list of your ten favorite Disney Villains, email us at mickeymindset@gmail.com!
